FAQ

1. What is the National Transit Building?

The National Transit Building is a historic landmark in Oil City, Pennsylvania, built in 1890 to house Standard Oil’s local operations. It now serves as a community hub, offering office space, event rentals, and support for non-profit organizations.

The Oil City Civic Center  is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the National Transit Building and fostering arts, culture, education, and socioeconomic improvement in the Oil Region.

The building was constructed in 1890 during the height of the Pennsylvania oil boom. Over the years, it housed Standard Oil operations, became a hub for local organizations, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. In 1995, activist Ralph Nader purchased the building, which was later donated to the Oil City Civic Center.

Current tenants include Community Services of Venango County, Keystone Education Council, ARTS Oil City, Venango County Democrats, Center for Family Services, and several others.
